What is a teacher's primary role in remedial
education?
A remedial teacher is someone who assists a
youngster who is having scholastic challenges catch up with his or her peers. A
child who is having trouble coping with his schoolwork is more likely to have
additional problems at school, such as peer ragging.
Most of the challenges that the youngster is
having can be addressed by a remedial teacher, who can help him catch up to his
peers. A child's ability to catch up to his peers can take anywhere from one to
five years, depending on various circumstances.
A remedial instructor advises both the child
and the parents on how to deal with and overcome challenges (both academic and
non-academic). The training is run utilizing the school curriculum as well as
some other therapeutic approaches to ensure that the child has a healthy
development.
During remediation, the teacher should take a
comprehensive approach, concentrate on the child's issues, and assist him in
coping. A remedial instructor should teach the youngster how to deal with and
overcome his issues in the most effective way possible.
Students
who have temporarily fallen behind in their studies or otherwise need
short-term support in their learning to have the right to get remedial
teaching. Remedial teaching should be started immediately when difficulties in
learning or school attendance have been noticed so that the students would not
stay behind permanently in their studies. Remedial teaching can counteract
difficulties beforehand. Remedial teaching should be organized according to a
plan and as often as is necessary.
Remedial
education (also known as developmental education, basic skills education,
compensatory education, preparatory education, and academic upgrading) is
education designed to assist students to achieve expected competencies in core
academic skills such as literacy and numeracy.
Process of remedial teaching:

Setting teaching objectives:- Each pupil is different in terms of
academic standards, classroom learning, learning ability, and academic
performance. So, the first process of remedial teaching is to set the teaching
objectives according to the particular learner.
2.
Adapting the curriculum:- Teachers should adapt the curriculum to
accommodate the learning characteristics and abilities of pupils.
3.
Organizing teaching materials:-Teachers must devise different learning
activities with the same teaching objective to develop pupil's varied abilities
and skills in problem-solving and then organize the different teaching
materials according to the need.
4.
Choosing the appropriate teaching strategies:- After organizing teaching
material, select the proper teaching strategy for teaching.
5.
Collecting and preparing the support materials:- Collect and prepare all
the supporting materials which are required for teaching.
Objectives
of Remedial Teaching:-
§ The
objective of remedial teaching is to give additional help to the pupil who for
one reason or another, has fallen behind the rest of the class in the subjects.
§ Children
with learning difficulties have the same psychological needs and
characteristics as other children.
§ Some
of them however may be less able to organize their preparation or to comprehend
abstract ideas and concepts
§ Some
may have poor memory poor land of motivation, a short span of attention in work
situations, or associated behavioural problems.
§ It
must be also be noted that most of the learning difficulties pupils in remedial
classes encounter may not be within the child, but are relative to the content
where the learning is taking place such as the family background of the child,
the physical learning environment of the school, etc.
